Initially, the changes in v0.5 caused issues with building on macs -- I don't have a great way to test this, and the CI workflow doesn't catch this yet.
Once mac was working, a few other parameters needed tweaking so that linux would continue to build. Namely, I had to move around where OpenMP variables were set so that they would only apply to Linux. I'm not totally sure why this became a problem, as both mac and linux should rely on clang's openmp version.
