Terms needed for the Esperanto translation

Raphael Das Gupta edited this page Sep 9, 2019 · 6 revisions

This is a working document, to collect terms in the English original of the tutorial of which we need an Esperanto equivalent to be able to translate the tutorial to Esperanto.

This isn’t a finished glossary, and probably never will. (If it were, it’d belong into the tutorial itself, not here on the wiki.) Please excuse the mix of German and English.

The Esperanto terms we should use for

do

as in "to do the tutorial" (:de:absolvieren, machen, durcharbeiten)

  • eble "tralabori". Se eblas, furmuli tia alie.

on

as in "on a website", "on a (web) page" (:de: "auf einer (Web-)Seite")

  • en retejo (website), en retpaĝo ((web) page), en paĝo (page, even a physical one made from paper if it’s about the content, not the printing ink) (ne "sur")

on

as in "install on a computer"

  • instali ion en komputilon

  • less specific, can also mean data entry / typing or downloading: enkomputiligi ion (verbatim: "to into-computer-put")

code editor

a plain text editor specialized for code

  • kodredaktilo

  • fontkodredaktilo (only needed where the type of code to be edited by such a tool or program isn’t evident, i.e. when you’d also have to use the more explicit "source code editor" in English, which probably never occurs in the tutorial.)

open source, open-source

(adjektivisch verwendet: "The editor is open source." "An open-source editor.")

  • malfermitfonta

  • malfermitfonte (advervial)

Python

(the programming language)

  • Pitono (kun manusklo: "P", ne "p")

  • Python (avoid where possible, because letter "y" shouldn’t occur in Esperanto)

IDE, Integrated Development Environment
  • context:

Most Python programmers use complex but extremely powerful IDEs (Integrated Development Environments), such as PyCharm.

  • Jam ne estas klare. Ĉu

The text processor included in Microsoft Office

  • Vorto (Word) (kun manusklo: "V", ne "v")

    • (nur "Word" ne estas bona, ĉar Esperanto ne havas literon "W".)

    • "Vord" aus "Vordo" ankaŭ ne bonas

      • (kial?)

Notepad

The text editor included in Microsoft Windows

  • Notepado (pronounced /no̞te̞pädo̞/ (4 syllables))
