Providing a new obs dataset for ESMValTool? #2765

Hi @Kate-Willett, thanks for your question and your consideration in using ESMValTool for your dataset. It looks to me that the data structure is not too different from the one of HadCRUT5 for which we have support, i.e. a "CMORizer" script that makes a dataset fully CMOR-compliant and which can then be used in ESMValTool recipes. A CMORizer is basically made of 2 files:
To get an idea of the modifications needed to process the dataset with ESMValTool, you could try to develop a prototype for a CMORizer, based on the HadCRUT5 example, and apply it to see which remaining CMOR issues should be addressed if any. We have a tutorial lesson for this task. The main steps could be summarized as follows, assuming that you have access to a development version of ESMValTool:
If you have any questions or doubts about this, please let me know. If you put your prototype of CMORizer in a branch in this repository, I'd be happy to take a look and help finalising it. EDIT: The tutorial episode on CMORization is now up-to-date. |

Hi,
Please can I have some advice.
I've been wondering how I can make my global in situ surface humidity dataset easier to use. Its gridded (coarsely, 5x5) monthly means and anomalies from 1973 to present, updated every year. I have a version on CEDA (land: https://catalogue.ceda.ac.uk/uuid/062942e96a6e4567b2bc47045be910a7, marine: https://catalogue.ceda.ac.uk/uuid/54d3408edd9e41bca226924754619812, blended: https://catalogue.ceda.ac.uk/uuid/563cb665bc6e43f99b355a9bb8134317). This was intended to be a CMOR compliant format but that was a few years ago so I would like to know if it actually is or what level of modifications might be needed, if people think that would be useful.
I've been told to add this to get the appropriate people's attention: @ESMValGroup/esmvaltool-developmentteam
Thanks
Kate Willett
