History

Hardeep Singh Rai, the Dean of Testing and Consultancy Cell at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, being a mentor at GSOC also gives training to the students. His training style is different as he gives the real life problems to students to solve. So during a training session the college (GNDEC) was conducting a Ph.D level exam and there was this problem to plan a seating arrangement for the students. We had to automate the procedure so that we don't have to do it manually. This task was given by Dr. H.S.Rai to his training students, Karamvir Kaur and Satvir Kaur. I (Mandeep Kaur) was invited by Satvir to join as the third member working for the project.

We three worked on the seating plan and it was completed before the exam. It was functional, but needed some fixes here and there. After the Ph.D exam we decided to keep working on the project and we added more strategies. After the six weeks training we got busy in our course curriculum and could not give any time to it. I, decided to have my 6 months training too under Dr. H.S Rai. I decided to first finish my "Seating Plan Project" before moving to some other project. Dr. H.S Rai, I and other GD members decided to have it online and host the code in github under GPLv3 license so that anyone can use it. Before releasing I improved it a bit and with the help of GD members, my project got a brand name "BAKA PLAN" which is a condensed form for Baithne Ka Plan , which is a hindi term meaning Plan to sit. After hosting it online, GD community started improving it's code and looks and is actively doing it under the guidance of Dr. H.S Rai
