The "cropping" in case of backup mode means to look over the list of currently running stable links, select the "best" one and silence the others.
By default the links are cropped to the one with highest priority.
In case when there are more than 1 link of the highest priority, they are additionally sorted by activation time. This rules out links that have been temporary-activated, and if none of them is exit the temporary-activation state, then select the oldest activated out of them.
So, with this fix, the link with highest priority AND oldest activation time is selected.
