Printer goop

The stuff that makes your printed parts stick.

This is a group buy/documentation for a PVA-beating print adhesive.

What is it?

This is a mixture you can spray or apply to your printer, with the idea that it will make it stick very well, until you don't need it anymore. Typically this means your printed bed must cool down before being able to remove it.

Where to get it.

PVP/VA co-polymer powder, it's the active ingredient in hair spray. Typically you need to buy a big quantity, and a normal person will only need around 15-20grams of it.

TL:DR; "Normal Goop" Just needs a tiny amount of PVP-VA. "Super Goop" Needs PVP and PVOH.

Yes, there will be plenty of dodgy white powder jokes.

How to mix it:

Easy mix ("Normal Goop"):

1% of powder by weight of overall mix (1g for 100ml of liquid for example) (for sprayer, by killcode; lower % of PVP-VA to allow better release) - 50ml water, 50ml IPA/Metho, 1g of PVP-VA virgin powder

Untested high temperature mix ("Super Goop", much harder to mix)

70% PVP, 30% PVOH, 1:1 ratio of water to IPA/Metho (mixed to desired consistency) (sprayer mix by eddie) - 2.5g PVP, 0.4g PVOH, 25ml water, 25ml IPA/Metho

How to use it:

Mix with water, or a water/alcohol mix in 2-5% by weight. Spray on plate. Redistribute on plate with standard IPA wipe after you lift prints. Mostly invisible on prints, but washes off with water. Group buy is an envelope with a coin bag stuffed with the raw powder. This is basically Dimafix and other commercial adhesives but the raw powder is enough for something like 20 dimafix pens or more (which they sell for $40 a throw).

How can I get a smaller quantity for a single person?

Please see #flea-market on the discord.

What's a good thing to put it in?

A marker pen is the recommended method for application, as it is easy to fill, and spreads evenly across your print bed. Can be found at most art stores, or online.

Alternatively, a small spray bottle, like the kind you get with glasses to clean them, works too.
