Emulator inaccuracy in US version of Final Fantasy, Mystic Quest #30
Comments
Thanks, interesting. Given that this reproduces in different emulators, this looks like a bug in the game itself. Anyway, does this reproduce in bsnes v115 (that bsnes-mt is based on) and current bsnes nightlies? Or could you provide a save file so that others could test? Also, did you test in the latest Snes9x 1.62.3? |
Sorry for the late reply. College finals week got in the way. So I rechecked all the emulators, including Snes9x v1.62.3, to make sure I still get the same results as first mentioned. I did, with one exception. The MQL version suddenly stopped showing the textbox as well...until it somehow fixed itself. That is, I loaded up an MQL savestate with the textbox present and moved back and forth on the map to find the textbox would permanently disappeared. Then I switched with the graphics driver settings to no avail. So I went back to the driver originally used (Directback3D 9.0) and made a savestate showing the textbox no longer loading. Finally I reset the emulator and all of a sudden it works again for MQL. Even if I restore state to when it didn't work it now resets to working after moving on the map. So maybe there is a graphics driver issue that gets fixed when you reset the emulator? But this had no effect on the FFMQ version. Still no textbox there. In the end MQL shows the textbox in Bsnes v115 and Bsnes-mt v115 just fine, while FFMQ only shows the textbox correctly in Snes9x v1.43 Rerecording v18.1. I have saves/savestates for the eight emulators I used to checked FFMQ, but couldn't attach them to this response. I did attach pics of what I am talking about. Let me know how I might share a .rar file with the savestates if you like. |
Oh my gosh. I haven't been to my proton mail in weeks. Sorry.
Attached are the Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest saves, savestates, and pics for the issue of not getting the 255 out of 10 message to show up on the glitched water area battlefield.
I included a Save Notes.txt readme explaining the contents. Hope this all helps.

Does this reproduce in Ares (that may be different from bsnes in terms of SNES emulation)?
Also, did you test in the latest Snes9x 1.62.3?

Looks like you tried to use email for sending a comment here, and attached a file to the email message, and that file was not attached to the GitHub comment. I just shifted from playing the European "Mystic Quest Legend" to it's US counterpart: "Final Fantasy, Mystic Quest". In the process, I noticed that when I go to the northwestern most battlefield in the water area and perform the Gather battlefield glitch, which causes it to have 255 rounds left out of 10, the textbox that says "Battlefield Round 255 of 10" doesn't appear. It does appear when playing "Mystic Quest Legend".
The only emulator I found that has the textbox appear correctly for the US version is Snes9x v1.43, Rerecording v18.1 from TASVideos.org. The Snes9x v1.51, Bsnes HD, Bsnes+, SnesGT, Ares, and Higan emulators didn't work correctly, with the textbox invisible in each one. Snes9x v1.43 does show that it should be there, so it doesn't appear to be a problem specific to the US version of the game.
