Dear PDS Registry Users,
The first monthly Registry User Workshop is happening Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 9:05AM
PDT.
Scope of the Workshop
The workshop is intended to be a demo/hands-on training where at the end of the session, you
should have some data ingested and published in your Node’s registry and accessible to the
public. We plan to work with node personnel to debug any issues in real-time. Additionally, we
would like this workshop to be both a training and a Q&A where node technical staff have an
opportunity to ask questions in a forum that is more conducive to detailed technical discussions.
This workshop will not include a significant architecture or detailed overview of what the registry
is, why it exists, etc., since that has been presented at past management council and various
working group meetings. If you would like a refresher on that material, please see the reference
material at the end of this email.
If you have questions or concerns about the material we plan to present, or have additional information or details you would like us to discuss during this workshop, please let us know.
Who Should Participate
Any node personnel are welcome to follow along with the presentation. If you wish to participate in the hands-on training, please coordinate with your node personnel accordingly in setting up the tools and selection of data sets, as will be discussed later in this email.
For Hands-on Training Participants
Workshop Pre-Requisites:
By Monday 12pm Pacific (6/27/22)
We need some more information from you to ensure we are ready to help debug issues and
double-check our network configurations:
Name and Node: Let us know if you plan on participating in the hands-on training, and
the node to which you are affiliated.
Execution IP Address: We would like to verify the IP address you will be connecting from matches the range we have configured on your registry.
a. Log into your Node’s machine you plan to run the Registry Tools from, within your Institution’s network. We cannot allow access to the registry from personal laptops or workstations outside your institution’s network.
b. Run curl on the following URL to get your IP:
a. The bundle must be valid. Please check with your team to ensure the bundle you are attempting to load has been validated successfully.
b. The bundle must be accessible online. There must be an existing web address to your bundle.
c. The bundle must be unique and not already registered in your registry. Check with other folks on your team that you select unique bundles, and for those individuals who have already ingested some data, be sure to check that the bundle has not already been ingested. If you do not have a bundle that meets these criteria, or would simply prefer to ingest some test data for the time being, just let us know and we can supply you with a test bundle. We will provide the commands to delete any test bundles after the workshop.
Anytime prior to the start of the workshop:
Install the Registry Loader Tools on the system used above by following instructions at https://nasa-pds.github.io/registry/install/tools.html. Standalone Harvest and Registry Manager are the only tools needed for this workshop. All other tools mentioned in the documentation (Harvest Client, Supplementer, Scalable Harvest, etc.) are for more advanced usage, and are only needed in specific use cases. We will work with individual nodes on a case-by-case basis when those tools are needed.
Install the Webex Desktop application (optional): This will give you more flexibility to navigate to a break room if we encounter significant difficulties debugging issues in real-time. https://www.webex.com/downloads.html
Questions on Installation?
The preferred method of the Registry Discussion Board on Github, however, email pds-registry@jpl.nasa.gov is also always available.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks,
EN Team
