Bug Fixes πŸͺ²

V2023.11.0 is here!

This release fixes an issue where Tagger crashed when loading album art data for some files.

NOTE: There is a known issue where the Windows version of Tagger is unable to update from V2023.10.0 to V2023.11.0 .
This means that you need to redownload the setup exe from the github release page and install it again.
This issue was fixed in V2023.11.0, meaning future releases will be available to update within the app itself.

Back to Windows + QOL Improvements πŸͺŸ

V2023.10.0 is here! We've been hard at work this month bringing you a release packed with features and fixes :)

First, this release introduces a brand-new Windows version of the app built on WindowsAppSDK and WinUI 3! We previously stepped away from the Windows platform due to Microsoft's weird MSIX package format and store requirements, however recently the WindowsAppSDK has been extended to support unpackaged apps meaning we can distribute the app with our own installer and setup required dependencies for the app as we need.

In terms of features, this release introduces full support for playlists with relative paths, new tag properties, and a new information dialog for album art. Tagger will also watch a music folder library for changes on disk and prompt the user to reload the folder within the app. Furthermore, we fixed many issues and tweaked the design of some aspects of the app in which you can read all about below!

A special thanks to @kissthermite for bringing most of the changes in this release to our attention :)

Full Changelog πŸ“ƒ

  • Tagger is now available for Windows using Windows App SDK and WinUI 3 (#349)
  • Added the option to use relative paths when creating a playlist. This means that Tagger also now supports opening playlists with relative paths (#332)
  • Added the Disc Number, Disc Total, and Publishing Date fields to additional properties (#363 #365)
  • Added information dialog for album art (#366)
  • Added an option in Preferences to limit file name characters to those only supported by Windows (#372)
  • Tagger will now watch a music folder library for changes on disk and prompt the user to reload if necessary (#322 , #54)
  • Tagger will now display front album art within a music file row itself if available
  • Tagger will now remember previously used format strings for file name to tag and tag to file name conversions (#375)
  • Fixed an issue where downloaded lyrics would sometimes contain html encoded characters
  • Fixed an issue where file names containing the < character caused the music file row to not display (#370)
  • Fixed an issue where the duration displayed for multiple selected files was wrong (#379)
  • Improved create playlist dialog ux (#332)
  • Updated translations (Thanks everyone on Weblate!)

Back to Windows + QOL Improvements πŸͺŸ

Release candidate 1 of V2023.10.0 is here!

Since beta 2, we made it so Tagger will now remember the previously used format string for File Name to Tag and Tag to File Name conversions. We also added a "Clear Publishing Date" button next to the Publishing Date field to clear the field easily.

In terms of bugs, we fixed an issue where the new Publishing Date field was not working for flac files.
We also improved the sorting algorithm, taking into account the new Disc Number field.

A special thanks to @kissthermite for bringing most of the changes in this release to our attention :)

Pre-release

Back to Windows + QOL Improvements πŸͺŸ

Beta 2 of V2023.10.0 is here!

Since beta 1, added Disc Number, Disc Total, and Publishing Date fields to tag properties to edit. We also added an information dialog for album art that will show properties such as an image's width, height, and type. An option to limit file name characters to those supported only by Windows was also added to the GNOME app.

We also fixed the issue where adding a file with an absolute path to a playlist with relative paths causes the whole playlist to switch to using absolute paths. We also fixed an issue where file names containing the < character would cause the row to not display.

Besides these user-facing changes, we also reworked the backend to improve file and album art loading making it more efficient and flexible for future feature additions.

A special thanks to @kissthermite for bringing most of the changes in this release to our attention :)

Pre-release

Back to Windows πŸͺŸ

Beta 1 of V2023.10.0 is here! This update series is a continuation of the V2023.9.2 series.

Compared to V2023.9.2-beta1, this release introduces a brand-new Windows app! We've been hard at work this month creating a Windows version of Tagger using WinUI 3 and the WindowsAppSDK and we are very happy with it. We've worked out issues that we have had in the past with WinUI, i.e distributing the app via the Microsoft Store, and are able to publish an exe app installer just like traditional Windows applications! Try it out below :)

Besides WinUI, in this release we also changed the design of the MusicFileRow in which it will now show a file's front album art if available. We also fixed an issue where downloaded lyrics would sometimes contain HTML-encoded characters.

Full Changelog πŸ“ƒ

  • Tagger is now available for Windows using Windows App SDK and WinUI 3 (#349)
  • Added the option to use relative paths when creating a playlist. This means that Tagger also now supports opening playlists with relative paths (#332)
  • Tagger will now display front album art within a music file row itself if available
  • Tagger will now watch a music folder library for changes on disk and prompt the user to reload if necessary (#322 , #54)
  • Fixed an issue where downloaded lyrics would sometimes contain html encoded characters
  • Improved create playlist dialog ux (#332)
  • Updated translations (Thanks everyone on Weblate!)

Known Issues

There is a known issue with relative playlist support in that if you have a playlist with relative paths and add a new file to the playlist but with it's full path instead, all of the playlist's files will also be stored with their full paths instead. The same goes for a playlist with all full paths and you add a new file with its relative path. We are working on a fix for this issue by the next release.
