- Not for profit: Ocelot.social is non-profit, serving the public good. The network is developed and maintained by a non-profit association located in Germany, assisted by open source contributors around the world.
- Privacy: Your data will not be sold to advertisers and no user profiling will be done unless the operator of the network in question explicitly states this in its privacy policy.
- Funded by donations: The ocelot.social software is funded by donations which means that you may or may not give some love back by a donation or by other ways of contributing.
- Self-determination: Independence from the terms of use of the well-known major social networks: The operator of an Ocelot.Social network sets its own terms of use.

The browser that works best with an ocelot.social network is Firefox by Mozilla. Less suitable, however, are the Edge browser and the Internet Explorer by Microsoft as well as old browser versions.
We recommend to use Firefox for two main reasons:
- It is a free open-source browser developed by Mozilla, a non-profit organisation that promotes participation on the internet and takes data privacy seriously.
- There are technical requirements that only Firefox meets to 100% at this point (other browsers limit the number of posts you can see when scrolling down the page, for example).
You are free to visit an ocelot.social network with other browsers! Firefox is the best technical fit at the moment but our developers do their best to make your experience as smooth as possible for any browser.
Download and install Firefox for free at: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

You need a domain and a web hosting (= space on a suitable web server), on which the Ocelot.software can be installed. On request we offer you a hosted service.
