This website is being developed and maintained by myself Luke Skinner and Andrew McGuckin. We are both graduates from the University of Stirling, and as part of our self project group Project Roundtable, we decided to make a calculator to help students calculate their final grade/degree classification. We found that it was quite confusing for newcomers to figure out exactly what they need for a 1st, 2:1 etc. So this aims to make that process a little bit easier by incorporating the rules laid out by the uni into a simple to use calculator.
We were inspired by a similar project by a student at Uni of St Andrews. So please go check out their website https://grades.lukasa.co.uk/ and repo https://github.com/Lukasa/st-andrews-grades while you are here.
We are currently using the following libraries/frameworks in our website:
- Tailwind CSS: We are using Tailwind CSS to streamline the design aspect of this website.
- Animate On Scroll (AOS): AOS is a JavaScript library that makes adding animations and transitions when scrolling much easier. We are using this to add more life to our website.
- Chart.js: Chart.js is a fairly popular JavaScript library that allows insertion of charts. We are mainly using this to display grade info in a pie chart form.
- Node.js: We are using node as our package manager and system of choice for this website.
Please go check out these if you want more information about them, and give them all some support.
First off, we made this for fun and are doing it in our own time. We are not being serviced by the University of Stirling, our website has no formal affliation with the University of Stirling and does not represent their views, policies or other statements. This website is an original creation, an no assets are being used from University of Stirlings own website. The only reference material we used for this website, is the publicly available grade descriptor which can be found at:
Due to the large number of edge cases, such as students studying abroad, students on dual programs etc. it would be impossible for us to cover all of them. As such the calculator represents what we see as the majority cases. If you fall into one of those subsets, we would recommend chatting with your Chief Examiner instead of relying on this calculator. While we aim to be as close as possible, we absolutely cannot guarrantee that our calculator will 100% accurately predict your degree classification, and we take no responsibility if it ends up being incorrect. This should only be used as a guide, and you should defer any questions to your Faculty Head or Chief Examiner. We may remove or cease production of this website at any point.
