Release process

Preparation

1. Prepare the release notes for the website
   • base it on the changelog, following previous release notes as template
   • push it to the website repo, open a PR, and wait for CI/human feedback with the release note
   • prepare a news post too, following previous release posts as template
2. Prepare the messages to other channels too:
   • Twitter
   • Reddit
   • IRC
   • Google groups
   • Facebook groups

1. Release with dzil release

Trial release process

1. Use a fourth number in the version, and add --trial for trial releases: V=1.12.2.3 dzil release --trial

Wrap up release

1. Publish the release notes to the website
2. Announce new release on the various channels
