Simple American Accent helps:

• who want an American accent (or closer to it) and
• already speak English at an advanced level

Started in 2018. Since then, it's grown from 0 to over 200k followers on Instagram.

Since 2024, I'm shifting the business from pure service/mentorship towards a tech-enabled service. I'm building a full stack web app to give my clients better accent feedback & training.

This GitHub organization is used for internal development purposes, including:

• 🌱 Private app for my clients to access annotated, interactive accent feedback and training resources. They already have access to an MVP and I'm improving it over time.
  • As of 1/21/2025 it's:
    • Frontend:
      • Vanilla JS, HTML, CSS
      • Gradually updating to React.
    • Backend:
      • Node/Express hosted on Render. Serves the front-end and handles API stuff.
      • Using Airtable as a database for now (considering switching to PostgreSQL).
      • S3 for storing audio and JSON.
    • Other:
      • Auth0 for authentication
      • Environment variables for API keys etc (I was super proud to finally figure out authentication, authorization, and environment variables!)
      • Informal, manual testing
  • Future plans/possibilities:
    • Frontend:
      • React and React Native
      • Native iOS and Android apps via Expo
    • Backend:
      • Maybe serverless?
      • PostgreSQL (I think)
      • Possibly: Python, machine learning, etc
    • Other:
      • More rigorous / complete testing and security approaches
      • Learn about containers, scaling, and whatnot
• 📈 Internal tools for tracking business metrics.
