v0.2
Hello there!
This is the first update on this shed project and marks the end of the concept phase.
Among the three alternatives I sketched on the main page, I found this one the more convincing and promising one.
The basic module size is 2,5m x 1m. The concept is to build a shed with movable partitions in order to be as small as possible when "turtled up" due to several reason, main being local laws concerning building permits and building abuses.
According to the country you are living in, you may be allowed a bigger or smaller size. As such the idea to build a minimal expansible module.
As you can see from the image above, the main project will be explored around a 7 module configuration, so to cover a 2,5m x7m size (17,5 sqm), current height is 3.00m
Since this shed will be used as a garden workshop, one module will host all the tools and hardware, while the opposite single module will be hosting all the raw materials such as wood beams/planks and sheets.
The movable partitions consist in 3 separate pieces: the roof part and the two movable vertical partitions are completely separated and run each on his own track. In Addition, the plan is to develop a mechanism enabling the vertical partition to both work vertically and horizontally as an extended roof. This to allow a bigger roofed area and work with grander ease.
Next steps
Starting the next phase, I'll start addressing these few points
-
materials / costs : I won't to keep the budget down to 5k (material expenses) since I can't predict the cost of labour which is incredibly diverse according to the country this structure will be built in.
-
modularity: the goal is to use as less typological pieces as possible and develop joinery nodes allowing a fast and easy assembly. Maybe using cnc technology.
-
versatility: as the projects goes further, I want to develop more variants to the base module in order to allow this to be buildable in the larger number of countries (a law-abiding shed : ) ) and add more functions.
I will be adding to the release a workable 3d model in the next few days
Cheers,
G
