Background

Goal

The idea is for an app that allows student members of our CPCEED programs to log their activities. There are 2 programs. The FIRST Mentorship Program and Women in Engineering program. Under each program student members receive points for a variety of activities and points lead to scholarship decisions for each program.

Current Situation

Currently members are emailing the coordinators on their activities at the end of each month. Previously in the FIRST program students were reporting their activities through email as they were doing them, but this placed a time load for the coordinator and took away from doing other important tasks. This year the coordinators will be receiving emails from 35+ students in FIRST that will need to be sorted, points placed in the right categories, and duplicates noted. They've moved to a monthly email system to address this, however this makes reporting more time consuming on the students’ side and they do not want this to lead to students reporting less, participating less, or dropping out of the program.

Motivation

We thought it may be more engaging and convenient for members if we had a system where they are able to report their activities under the appropriate categories through an app as they go (which would address both issues). We are especially interested in this for the FIRST program.
