This wiki is intended for open discussion, idea sharing, and feedback about how all of this ought to work.

The purpose of this gem is to allow us to specify everything about our metadata schema in configuration files, so that no metadata information is hard coded into the application. The application will then read the metadata schema directly from the configuration files into memory when the application launches.

Our goal is twofold. First, we want to make it easier to share metadata schemas between institutions. Second, we want to separate the metadata schema from application development work so that developers can code and metadata librarians can make metadata decisions separately.

This requires agreeing on a standard for how to format our metadata schema in config files. I have written up some of my thoughts about this configuration in this wiki, and I am very interested in other people's ideas.
