Analysis

Activity

User daily activity level will be categorized into 4 groups as per the 10,000-step standard. The daily steps of each user each day will intepreting their activity level. The categories are as follow:

  1. Sedentary - Less than 5000 steps per day
  2. Lightly active - Between 5000 and 7499 steps per day
  3. Fairly active - Between 7500 and 9999 steps per day
  4. Very active - More than 10000 steps per day
Show Code
ggplot(trimmed_activity, aes(x = total_steps, fill = activity_level)) +
  geom_histogram(bins= 50, position = "identity", colour="white") +
  geom_vline(xintercept = Mean.TotalSteps, color = "red")+
  theme_bw()+
  labs(x = "Daily Number of Steps", y = "Total",
       title = "Majority of Users are Active",
       subtitle = "Distribution of user daily total steps categorized by activity level")+
  guides(fill = guide_legend(title = "Activity Level"),
         colour = guide_legend(title = "Activity Level"))+
  annotate(x = Mean.TotalSteps, y =+Inf, label = "Mean", vjust = 1.5, geom = "label")+
  scale_fill_brewer(palette = "RdPu")

Activity Chart

Majority of user are in either the Fairly Active to Very active category. This findings could help see the potential target consumer.

Sleep

The dataset record the sleep activity of the users for all times of the day for a month.

Show Code
ggplot(cleaned_daily_sleep, aes(x = total_minutes_asleep / 60)) +
	geom_density(alpha = .5, fill = "#0099CC", color = "#0099CC") +
	geom_vline(
	aes(xintercept = Median.Sleep),
		color = "red",
		size = 0.5) +
	theme_bw() +
	annotate(x = 9.2, y =+Inf, label = paste0 ("Median Sleep: ", round(Median.Sleep, 2), " hours"), vjust = 1.5, geom = "label")+
	scale_y_continuous(expand = c(0, 0)) +
	theme(panel.border = element_blank(), panel.grid.minor.y = element_blank()) +
	labs(x = "User Hours of Sleep", y = "Sleep Frequency", fill = NULL)

Sleep Chart

The median of the normal distribution of sleep time indicates a normal sleep. Need to classifying users’ sleep habits for further examine correlations between activity and sleep quality.

Weight

From 33 users, only 8 users have reported their weights during data collection. These users can record the weight by manual, and automatic or smart reports.

Show Code
ggplot(weight_recording_type, aes(x = "", y = count, fill=is_manual_report)) +
  geom_col() +
  geom_text(aes(label = paste0(round(count/.33,0), '%')), color = c("#36454F", "#36454F", "#36454F"),
            position = position_stack(vjust = 0.5), size = 5,
            show.legend = FALSE) +
  guides(fill = guide_legend(title = "Weight Recording Type")) +
  scale_fill_brewer(palette = "OrRd") +
  coord_polar(theta = "y") +
  theme_void()+
  labs(title = "Percentage of Users Weight Data",
       subtitle = "Most of users didn't record weight. The data categorized by weight recording type.")

Weight Chart

Observation result the majority users do not record their weights or BMI. The minority of users with smart scales or devices that has feature to automatically record weight can be used as opportunity.

Recommendation

  • From activity analysis, we can give recognition for the consistent active users and lead them to upgrade app subscriptions. Give them benefits of premium users will increase their wellness.
  • From sleep analysis, we found that 73% of users are using the sleep feature (comfort when sleeping, battery life/ charging). We can give rewards for users who consistent sleep within normal sleep hours.
  • From weight analysis, we found that user does not use the weight tracker feature. We need to use this as new feature that can record users weight more user-friendly or using smart scale method(need further information).
