Prepare for release:

  • Check that description is informative
  • Check licensing of included files
  • usethis::use_cran_comments()
  • devtools::check()
  • devtools::check_win_devel()
  • rhub::check_for_cran()
  • Polish pkgdown reference index

Submit to CRAN:

  • usethis::use_version('patch')
  • Update cran-comments.md
  • devtools::submit_cran()
  • Approve email

Wait for CRAN...

  • Accepted 🎉
  • use github signed tag for a release
  • usethis::use_dev_version()
  • Update install instructions in README
  • Tweet

Some TODOs from CRAN submission:

  • fix licensing:
    • rename LICENSE to LICENSE.md, add to .Rbuildignore
    • remove reference to file LICENSE in DESCRIPTION
  • change cat()/print() to message() when not in a print() or summary() method
  • change dontrun to donttest throughout
    • run devtools::check(run_dont_test = TRUE)
  • update cran-comments.md
