There does not seem to be any need to restrict to the 3.x series;
doing so causes problems with projects that need a newer one for some
other purpose.

@benleb Sorry for bumping this. Would you be able to take a look? The update itself should be compatible. It would help us resolve a dependency conflict in Home Assistant.
