Removing Installing Upgrading versions of the plugins
The Resynthesizer suite of plugins are a third-party set of plugins. That means they do NOT come with the GIMP app, and you must remove/install them separately.
Generally, you do not need to reinstall these plugins when you upgrade GIMP. Generally, the Resynthesizer plugins do not change between major versions of GIMP. You will need to reinstall these plugins for major upgrades to GIMP (when version 3 arrives.)
Resynthesizer has not changed in many years. There have been very few bug fixes. Most changes have been to the build system, and to accommodate a few changes in GIMP.
You usually don't need to worry if you use your system's package installer, flatpak, snap, appimage, or an installer from another packager.
You (or the package manager) should install these plugins to the "user" specific location. The "user" specific location is separate from the "system" location. The "system" location is where GIMP installs, so that all users can use GIMP, so that the GIMP installation is protected, and so that if you reinstall GIMP you might not need to reinstall the plugins that you installed separately from GIMP.
Typical "user" locations:
Linux
~/.gimp-2.x/plug-ins (.exe and .py)
~/.gimp-2.x/scripts (.scm)
/usr/share/gimp/2.0/scripts (.scm)
/usr/local/lib/gimp/2.0/plugins (.exe and .py)
Windows
c:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins (.exe and .py)
c:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\plug-ins (.scm)
c:\Doc...Settings\username\gimp-2.x\plug-ins (.exe and .py)
c:\Doc...Settings\username\gimp-2.x\scripts (.scm)
Rarely you might find, and need to remove, these older versions before installing this package. They probably do NOT still work, and are duplicates at best. They are in the Scheme language, i.e. "ScriptFu" plugins.
