How to contribute?

Hi,
thank you for all the work that you put into this project!

I've noticed that the repo structure changed recently and that quite some packages got lost in transit. However, I don't really understand what's going on...

How can we contribute? Can we use PRs to add packages? Where do we need to add them? What's garuda and kitsuna?

Could you share some insights?

Hi, most of what happened is in our Telegram Channel.

But making it short: Chaotic lived hosted in a 40vCPUS/400G of RAM cluster that held all the compilations (except linux-tkg packages). UFSCar provided this cluster without any costs. But UFSCar went through some changes in its datacenter and stopped offering VMs, changing it for HPC (high-processing computer) jobs. We were short in hardware resources and needed to reinvent how we organised our packages, to distribute them between other clusters.

What is the situation now?:

• We have fewer packages distributed between the remaining clusters. (And in the process of adding back more)
• We adapted our infrastructure to support building in all clusters simultaneously and organised;
• We can build some packages in the UFSCar's HPC jobs queue.

How can we contribute?:

• Open an issue requesting packages, those will be validated by a maintainer and separated between clusters that can hand each one.
• We may reject packages, if the costs for keep building them, or the amount of manual intervention is not worth;
• There is no need for being formal;
• You can have multiple packages in the same issue (that's preferred);
• You can comment in other users' issues to defend interest for a package.
