*_linux.zip is compiled with GCC (on Linux)
*_windows_mingw.zip is compiled with minGW (cross-compiled on Linux, for Windows).
*_windows_msvc.zip is compiled with Microsoft Visual Studio Compiler (natively compiled in Windows).

Windows users can choose between mingw or msvc releases; for most users the experience is the same.
