A collection of groups, events, and opportunities for developers in the Atlanta, GA area 🍑

The Problem

For the past couple of years, I've been looking to join groups and meet other developers, make friends, and connections. I've finally found some but it took a while to sift through dead groups on Meetup and find affordable conventions to network at.

This list is a collection of active groups and events, all in one place, so you don't have to do the digging! Please feel free to contribute (I know there's a lot more out there) and open a PR! Just check the contribution guidelines first.

Please reach out with any questions, comments or suggestions. I'd love to hear how I can keep improving this collection. Shoot me an email at developer@cmdme.dev

Affordable Conventions

  • Atlanta Developer Conference
    • $10 and lunch is included! A relatively new conference located at Kennesaw State University.
  • Refactr Tech
    • Regular admission goes for $60. Refactr Tech highlights diversity and inclusion in the tech sphere. A lot of sessions focus on accessibility and marginalized groups of people and give good insight on more than just technical knowledge. It's a small, but great conference that's easy to meet and mingle with others.

Groups

  • Atlanta Metro Code and Coffee
    • Meet at the Computer Museum of American in Roswell. Bring your computer and talk about projects, ideas, or whatever. Coffee, tea, and donuts provided.
  • Atlanta Tech Meetup
    • Meets the first Tuesday of each month at Atlanta Tech Park in Peachtree Corners for tech discussions and networking, covering topics from software engineering to cloud technologies and DevOps.
  • Casual Coding
    • Work on your projects in the company of other developers. Meet at Ponce City Market, 2nd floor food hall near Cobbler Union store.
  • Code for Atlanta
    • Hack nights with a focus on local government issues that occur on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month.
  • Decatur Makers
    • A membership based makerspace. If you have Ardunio/Pi projects to solder, they've got the equipment and a bunch of other stuff!
  • DEF CON
    • Get together the third Saturday of every month from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. at Manuel’s Tavern and talk about technology & security.
  • Free Code Camp Atlanta
    • Talk about code, projects, and get help all while drinking coffee.
  • Girl Develop It Atlanta
    • Opportunities for women and non-binary adults to further their programming skills.
  • JavaScript Alpharetta
    • Everything JavaScript. Just getting back to in-person meetups. Code jams, talks, etc.
  • PyATL
    • Meetups every first and second thursday of the month about python!
  • React ATL
    • All about React. Virtual meetup. Not sure when going back to in-person.
  • Atlanta Vue.js Meeup
    • All about Vue. Meetups will begin again in 2023!
  • Women Who Code Atlanta
    • Dedicated to supporting women in tech fields.

Opportunities

  • Atlanta Tech Village
    • A place for startups. Not all meetups and workshops require a membership.
  • General Assembly
    • Bootcamps and workshops. In-person events in NYC but the Atlanta office (Ponce City Market) hosts online events.
  • Kitt Labs
    • A membership-based co-development studio with access to office spaces, recording and electronic equipment, a makerspace, VR tools, etc.
  • Refcode
    • Help refugees and immgrants learn to code, whether it's a new hobby or a change in career. Refcode has many volunteer opportunities.
  • Tech Square
    • A membership shared-workspace but with events open to the public.
