Examples of Data Science Labs
Several universities have data science laboratories that provide students with resources and opportunities to apply data science techniques to real-world problems.
These laboratories focus on developing new techniques and tools, with a strong emphasis on machine learning and artificial intelligence, and applying data science to social science problems such as inequality, poverty, and social justice.
List of some DSL:
-
Stanford Data Lab, aims to teach data science skills to students from all academic backgrounds and provides coaching to work on real problems with NGOs, government agencies, and social sector organizations.
- Data Challenge Lab: Challenges are created by finding data experts and reverse-engineering their projects.
- Impact Lab: The Impact Lab gives students the opportunity to learn and apply more advanced skills on complex, long-term projects.
-
UC Berkeley D-Lab, is a research and teaching facility at the University of California, Berkeley. D-Lab provides resources and support for researchers and students who are working with data in various fields such as social sciences, humanities, and public health.
-
University of Chicago Data Science Institute. The Data Science Laboratory at the University of Chicago applies data science to social science problems, with a focus on addressing issues of inequality, poverty, and social justice, providing students with resources for research and hands-on experience.
- DSI Summer Lab: A summer research opportunity for high school and undergraduate students focusing on rigorous, applied, interdisciplinary data science research and rooted in a cohort community.
- Data4All: A bridge workshop to introduce high schoolers to data science research and inspire them to consider careers in data science and AI.
- Open Spatial Lab: Creates open source tools and analyses to solve problems using geospatial data science.
- Civic Data & Technology Clinic: has launched 14 clinic projects with external social impact organizations. These organizations support local communities through four key impact areas: food and agriculture, energy, human rights, and marine technology (11-th Hour Project Hub)
-
