SMTP - wrong sender adress

I'm using the 1.9.1 version and have th eproblem that the outgoing e-mail adress is the adress of the user. I've set the outgoing adress under the systemsettings, but it seems that this is not used. And this is the reason that the emails are not send. Had someone the same problem?
