In 2018, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was elected by a 9.5% margin while carrying 56 out of 110 state house districts (a one-seat majority). Republicans held the chamber with 58 of 110 seats. In the state senate, Whitmer won 20 of 38 districts (also a one-seat majority) while Republicans held the chamber with 22 of 38 seats.
In 2014, former Gov. Rick Snyder was re-elected by a 4% margin while carrying 69 of 110 house districts and 25 of 38 senate districts.
