# Ledger & Tokenization Working Group Charters

## 2023-08-22
[Slide deck](n.a.), [recording](https://drive.google.com/file/d/116qMOaILlRxaRrpri1DnH0u4hkGOSKh-/view?usp=sharing)

Due to only a few people attending, other topics of interest than ICRC-3 have been discussed.

**Privacy-preserving ledger**
* How could one get to a ledger (different standard) that does not allow anyone to read everyone's balances; this may be important to prevent people with lots of assets from being targeted in attacks
* ICP ledger would be a step towards this
* Attacker could only see information they should not get during the time they have access to a node and can read the blocks
* Can query all balances of all account ids, but cannot trace them back to the identities because of the hash being applied
* Can take the open source implementation of the ICP ledger and customize it (others have done this)
* Would be easy to change the decimals, currently not used and only metadata
* Ethereum community is talking about cryptographic schemes to make this possible (stealth addresses)
* Maybe pre-signing transactions and sending the bytes might be a solution; anybody can send the bytes; this removes the caller; whoever can read the caller can read the from address of the transaction; that could go in the direction of stronger privacy; but public key needs to be visible, so can still know who the caller is, so this idea seems not to work

**Signed transactions**
* Now CEXs using cold storage need to create a lot (2 thousand) of transactions with different timestamps so that one tx will be submittable (the IC checks that the timestamp is in a given interval)
* Pre-signed transaction support at ledger level would solve this
* Sign payload to the canister; an anonymous user could submit
* IC does not validate, but canister
* Payload, public key, and signature; then ledger can verify
* Requirement is that payload must be deduplicated
* This would be really helpful to have as standard
* Could also be used as a cheque
* Should be discussed in the WG in the future
* Wallet canisters would be a good way also; there was opposition against this earlier
* Ethereum is doing this now with account abstraction and smart contract wallets
* One question is what to allow to sign
* Any payload? Very generic

Note: Generic tx signing in HW wallet (e.g., ledger) requires that content of what is being signed be displayed to the user

**Future topics to work on**
QR code / URL for payments
* Created for NNS dapp
* Would be nice to have a standard on this so everyone can use it; likely less heavy than the current topics
* Plan is to invite David
Batch transfers
* Sale canister of SNS could benefit from this; now is making a call for each transaction
* Origyn canister sending out royalties could also benefit
Indexing
* Important topic as well; complements ICRC-3 (access tx log) with querying the ledger, e.g., by account
* Basic indexing would be by account
* Can do also by memo; different indices would be useful for different use cases
* Must decide on how generic we want this to be
* Consumers: e.g., block explorers
