I'm going to try 'stacking' pull requests - rather than having one mega-PR with all my work, I'll create a series of smaller ones that are each to be merged into the one before it, eventually all merging into this one, which will merge into main.
This means that this PR should be merged last. I've marked it as a draft so it can't be accadentally merged.
