[APM] Display threshold alert annotations on time-series graphs #60373
Comments
Pinging @elastic/apm-ui (Team:apm) |
@mdefazio Hi Michael 👋I just wanted to pass this by you. Do you know of any designs or concepts from the Alerting UI team about how to visualize alerts as annotations on charts? Was this something that you explored? I think the closest to this I've seen is the Alert notifications dropdown from the main header. |
@formgeist We never formalized any designs or interactions around it. We had the concept in early wireframes but we have not come back to it yet. |
@mdefazio Alright, thanks for clarifying. We'll move ahead with our implementation and hopefully, that will help drive a common pattern for other solutions to adapt as well. |
@sqren Why was this closed? |
Summary
Design issue: elastic/apm#170
Descoped #59566 because of the missing event log to be queryable.
We want to display alerts that have occurred within the selected time range in the APM UI. Specifically transaction duration and error rate thresholds.
Solution
The annotations will be displayed on all time-series graphs in APM UI as they would aid to show if a specific spike above a threshold might have possible correlations.
Each annotation will display a detailed tooltip that enables the user to inspect the threshold violation and view the error instance in the alerting management UI.
