Commands
helm-M-x
, which by default is bound to <helm-prefix> M-x
, is used to launch commands in Helm. For convenience, you should bind it to M-x
.
Features include:
- Smart sorting
- Show key bindings next to command names
- Show documentation with persistent action (
C-z
) - Show prefix arguments in the mode line
Prefix arguments should be passed after calling helm-M-x
. Simply type the prefix you want (e.g. C-u
or M-9
) on the highlighted command before hitting RET to execute it, you will see a prefix arg counter appearing in mode-line notifying you
the number of prefix args entered.
This allows you to view the command’s documentation (with persistent action) and know exactly what prefix arguments do before passing them.
If you pass prefix arguments before calling helm-M-x
, the prefix arguments will be displayed in the minibuffer prompt like emacs vanilla execute-extended-command
command, then after helm-M-x
starts, the first C-u
will be to used to clear it, so you can cancel prefix arguments or pass another one after calling helm-M-x
.
To put the command in the minibuffer, hit C-c C-y
on the highlighted command.
