Releases: ericvids/wolfdosmpu
1.51
Wolfenstein 3D/Spear of Destiny 16-bit DOS executables with MPU-401 support (replacing the AdLib/Sound Blaster OPL2-based FM music). Music files provided by wolfmidi.zip.
For each supported version, there are two suffixes. Pick the one that you most prefer:
- M = MPU-401 support + game bugfixes only
(Rendering speed is nearly identical to the vanilla versions.) - W = MPU-401 support + game bugfixes + modern WASD-style controls + press Tab for completion stats or automap, selectable in Control menu
(Rendering speed is slightly slower due to automap tracking.)
Supported versions:
- WOLF3DCM.EXE / WOLF3DCW.EXE
Wolf3D commercial (for v1.4 id/GT/Activision/Steam .WL6 data files)
(Do not use with Apogee data files.) - WOLF3DRM.EXE / WOLF3DRW.EXE
Wolf3D registered (for v1.4/v1.4g Apogee .WL6 data files)
(Do not use with commercial data files.) - SPEARCM.EXE / SPEARCW.EXE
SoD commercial (for v1.0/v1.4 FormGen/Activision/Steam .SOD data files)
Semi-supported versions:
- WOLF3DSM.EXE / WOLF3DSW.EXE
Wolf3D shareware (for v1.4/v1.4g Apogee .WL1 data files only) - SPEARDM.EXE / SPEARDW.EXE
SoD demo (for v1.0 FormGen .SDM data files only)
Notes:
-
If you hear just the original AdLib/Sound Blaster music, make sure you have unzipped the contents of wolfmidi.zip in the same directory while preserving the .zip's directory layout (i.e., there should be a MUSIC\ subdirectory)!
-
If you hear no music at all, or you're experiencing out-of-memory issues or crashes, see the README.md file for troubleshooting.
-
New feature (starting version 1.48): You are now able to load savegames made by the original WOLF3D.EXE/SPEAR.EXE! This also allows Steam/GOG versions of the game to sync savegames through the cloud. If you have existing wolfdosmpu savegames (from versions 1.32 through 1.47), please rename your savegames from SAVEGM_n.xxx to SAVEGAMn.xxx (e.g., SAVEGM_0.WL6 -> SAVEGAM0.WL6). Savegames from Apogee versions 1.2 and below or wolfdosmpu versions 1.31 and below are NOT supported.
-
The WASD version (W-suffix EXE) will create a new CONFIG_.xxx file (note the underscore) in order to retain user-selected control options separately from the MPU-only version (M-suffix EXE).
