1 tbsp. sugar | ||
1 tbsp. baking powder | ||
3/4 tsp. garlic powder | ||
1/2 tsp. salt | ||
1/4 tsp. black pepper | ||
1/2 cup cold butter, thinly sliced | ||
3 tbsp. fresh chives or scallion greens, thinly sliced | ||
3.5 oz. cheddar, shredded | ||
* mix together dry ingredients | ||
* blend in butter with pastry blender | ||
* fold in chives/scallions and cheddar | ||
* chill while preparing remaining ingredients | ||

3 oz. ham, finely chopped | ||
2/3 cup milk or buttermilk | ||
1 egg yolk | ||
* fold ham into dry mixture | ||
* whisk milk and yolk and pour into dry mixture | ||
* mix until a dough forms and divide into 12 lumps | ||
* arrange on a greased baking sheet | ||
* chill baking sheet for 15 minutes (or chill dough before dividing if you don't have | ||
enough fridge space) | ||
|
||
1 egg white | ||
1 tbsp. milk | ||
* whisk together and brush scones | ||
* bake at 400°F for 20 minutes, until edges are golden brown and the tops are lightly | ||
browned | ||
