Lefthook config file not found when git is initialized in ancestor folder

Hi, I am trying to resolve a situation with lefthook unable to find a config file (Error: Config File "lefthook" Not Found in "[/Users/user/documents/project-root]"). I already looked elsewhere with no luck.
I have project structure:

. project-root
├── README.md
├── .git
├── backend
├── frontend
    ├── lefthook.yml
    ├── package.json

I assume the issue might be with .git was initialized in a folder above lefthook config. Is there a way to resolve this?

Never mind, I previously thought that lefthook needs to be in the same folder as package.json and node_modules. However, it works perfectly fine when I moved it to the folder where git was initialized.
