Idle Power consumption

To measure the idle power consumption the following setup was used: measurement setup

idle power consupmtion
Supply voltage Idle power consumption
5V 1.1W
12V 1.4W
20V 2.5W
24V 3.3W

The idle power consumption increases with rising input voltage, because the efficiency of the power supply decreases and the two amplification ICs draw more current at higher input voltages.

We also looked at the thermal characteristics of the PCB in idle mode. The temperature of the ADAU did not change with the input voltage, but the temperature of the two amplification ICs rose, as you can see in the following pictures. The CS8422 (for S/PDIF in) was warm, because it was configured in SigmaStudio, so it was waiting for an input signal.
