Gentoo for the PlayStation 2

Make sure that you have a working R5900 crossdev compiler, or begin by installing an R5900 cross compiler with Gentoo.

Review the cross build environment guide and build an R5900 Gentoo Linux base system with

mipsr5900el-unknown-linux-gnu-emerge -uva --keep-going @system

The root filesystem in /usr/mipsr5900el-unknown-linux-gnu can now be used with R5900 QEMU user mode emulation, or directly to have Gentoo Linux on the PlayStation 2.
