@egede @alexanderrichards Shall we merge this - doing the updates for the latest flask etc is very involved so this is a minimal change.

Yes, that is fine. I would probably prefer that we rip the whole GUI thing out, but that will take some real work.

This didn't fix the tests in the end. A quick google suggests that it may be a bit of a mess to git that fixed. Maybe we should leave this and stop the GUI tests. I think it would be a shame to do away with the GUI entirely - it is not totally unusable currently.
