Comments
All VSCode Portable downloads are named in the correct format - What is the name of the file you are trying to install? |
Gareth:
I am trying to install the Visual Studio Code Portable version from the GitHub site.
See attached screenshots of the downloaded installation file (with Properties window open) and the message I receive when I double-click on the installation file.

All VSCode Portable downloads are named in the correct format - VSCodePortable_X.XX_online.paf.exe.
What is the name of the file you are trying to install?

I believe the issue is that the installer for the latest release is named |
@thejtshow thanks for the spot! The latest installer has been renamed to |
Hello and I am very sorry for taking so long to respond.
I tried installing Visual Studio Code Portable today and was successful. However, I did run into a few glitches along the way. See attached. The installation process stopped in the place shown in the screenshot. (That is Paint.Net in the background which is where I pasted the screenshot to create the image file.)
After waiting about 15 minutes, I used Task Manager to stop the installation process. But, when I looked in Windows Explorer, the folder with the installed program was where I designated it to be placed. So, I double-clicked on the icon and...nothing happened. The icon did change to the little spinner momentarily. After a couple of double-clicks (frustration), I closed Windows Explorer and did something else. I went back a few minutes later and was going to delete everything to try the installation again. I tried double-clicking again. The application opened and gave me the "Welcome" page. So, I started working on a JavaScript project.
If there is any information I can provide that could help with this installation process, please let me know.
If the computer I am using has anything to do with things...I can tell you that I work on the Cuyahoga County Public Library's HP Compaq LE1711 computers which really need to be replaced. But, there are probably thousands of them in the various branches, and the current budget probably doesn't allow for new computers just yet. These computers are reliable considering all the use they get, the IT department does a really great job keeping them up and running, but these machines cannot be upgraded past Windows 7. I am not complaining. The computers are free to use and there is no time limit on them for patrons. I just have to make some adjustments like using portable apps. (At least the librarians don't have to use these computers to help patrons anymore. They were all given MS Surface laptops over a year ago.) So, I can now go back to my Lynda.com programming courses using Visual Studio Code Portable. (Access to Lynda.com are also free through our library system. Yeah - It's a good library.)
Thanks for this portable version.
Have a good day.
Ken

I am trying to download and install Visual Studio Code Portable.
When I double-click the downloaded file, I get the following error:
ProtableApps.com Installers that download files must end with "_online.paf.exe".
This is to ensure that users always know that an installer downloads files before it is run.
Please rename the file to end in _online.paf.exe before running.
