The Web 2.0 event raised warning bells how a few dominant internet giants are hoovering up data:
- search data & resulting purchase - your intentions and decision points;
- social graph - identity, activity stream and connections;
- content & interest signals - mining ambient intimacy for who consumes what/when;
- location - opportune timing for impulse purchases.
The social web centralises control into a few chokepoints (identity, DNS, payment, etc) which has lead to criticism of Surveillance Capitalism. This goes against software/security best practices like:
What will Web 3.0 based around semantic content, visual computing and blockchain be different?
- machine readable content (metadata, microformats) to guide navigation;
- reduced cognitive load via more intuitive interfaces and interactive engagement;
- read-write-EXECUTE web with quasi-autonomous software agents acting for users.
