.gitattributes is failing to exclude HTML #6317

but all of the generated HTML files in docs/ are being counted.

They're not 😁... and you don't even need the override for those files to be ignored as they're ignored by default.

I suspect you're determing that these files are counting by clicking the HTML in the sidebar. As you'll note from the URL this is taking you to the search functionality which is independent of Linguist and will always return all files, regardless of your override as if it didn't, you'd never be able to find files excluded by overrides 😄.

Analysing your repo locally we can see your HTML comes down to these .htm (note, no l) files which your overrides are not accounting for:
