The trollface is a very old and pretty dead meme from 2008. A meme just doesn't live forever and it's been 11 years now. I really don't see how this is useful.

Agreed. I was even thinking of removing most of the non-standard emoji that we have, especially the ones from Doom, and keeping just :octocat: and :shipit:. But I'll have to verify first with other people from the company to see if that's going to cause disruption for some users.

While a meme may not live forever, ideally the history of our comments do - and my preference would be not to mess up old issue/pr/commit comments replacing :trollface: with :trollface: and such.

What would be the benefit of removing emojis (that are most probably loved by thousands of people)? Most other services keep adding more and more new ones.

I find it great when services offer more than the standard emojis. I never understood the :shipit: one, but I like that people can use it. Similar I am in the generation that can relate very well to :godmode:
