How to Contribute an Icon
Glasklart is a community effort, we can only continue being this successful with your help!
Whether you are responding to an icon request made by someone else or submitting, one for yourself, icon fulfillment require tree pieces of information:
- A preview of the icon.
- The icon itself which follows our guidelines that is attached to the request.
- The icon source file.
If you wish to receive credit for your icon and be listed on the contributors page you must have a public email address attached to your Github profile.
Only one icon should be attached per issue thread This helps us keep things nice and organized. If you submit more than one per thread, we'll still accept them, but please don't. We're trying to keep things efficient now as well as in the future.
Do not fulfill icon requests unless they are marked as valid this ensures we have all of the information we need before you waste your time contributing an icon that may never be included.
In order to create a Glasklart icon, you will need Photoshop as well as the Glasklart Icon Template v5.02.
Follow this guide to get you started down the road to creating your very first Glasklart icon.
Don't worry about the baseplate - it will be automatically added at the device.
Attach the icon to the issue by dragging and dropping the icon file directly into the issue.
Alternatively, you can click the 'choose an image' link and select it from your hard drive.
Look at the comment on this issue for a proper example of a well-done icon fulfillment.
DO NOT USE THE preview
LAYER PROVIDED IN THE PSD! That is provided
for your benefit when creating the icon. It should not be used for
the preview inside the issue.
In order for the team to determine if your icon is up to snuff, we need to see it as it would be if it was being used in the Glasklart theme.
After attaching your contribution in the step above, you will see a URL that looks similar to:
https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/2068130/20443259/6d673ce6-adcc-11e6-9e32-a69e670f9fd0.png
In order to create a preview for that file, you'll need to add the following line to your comment:
![](https://preview.dreamnet.at?image=https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/2068130/20443259/6d673ce6-adcc-11e6-9e32-a69e670f9fd0.png)
Notice the first part will not change for any preview you create:
![](https://preview.dreamnet.at?image=
The part after the equal sign is the URL that was created when you attached your contribution.
If you do it correctly you will see something like this:
Because we want to make Glasklart available for future iOS releases and we don't know what Apple changes next, we need you to attach the 1024x1024px source file of the icon you made. The source file should be in png or svg format and it should only contain two colors - solid, opaque black
and transparent
(the black part will be white in the finished Glasklart icon). Here are some examples:
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
The source file represents the 118x118px area between the guidelines in the center of the Glasklart .psd file.
Having the source file, allow us to downsize it without quality loss, we also can use them for other iOS devices. So when you post your icon contribution, please drag and drop the source in the issue, remove the ![......](
and the )
and you are done - and we are happy.
If you are submitting an icon without a prior request, you should follow the steps of an Icon Request.
Then come back here and follow all of these steps.
