Overview

Create a board of advisors for BallotNav, comprised of people who can advise us on a range of items that we need to address:
Where BallotNav fits into the larger democratic and voting picture
What technical obstacles might we face and how can we conquer them
How to best market BallotNav to partners

Action Items

  • Phone call with Jyoti Nanda of Golden Gate Univ. To advise on how to create the board itself. (proposed for Thurs 02/24/22, awaiting next step guidance from Bonnie/ Karen. ) *Update- call scheduled for 03/11/22 at 11AM PST.
  • Research how to form a board of advisors and prepare an outline for phone call
  • Prepare notes and presentation to the team, from phone call, outline and research

Resources/Instructions

Notes from PM meeting with Bonnie on 02/19/22

Create a BallotNav Board of Advisors
Better off to partner with big players in democratic space. Create a Board of Advisors to partner with. Sharing with them the problem we're trying to solve and how to best solve for it. A few organizations we can reach out to are Vote.org, Black Voters, and others. Looking for people who are pro-voter and making it as easy as possible for folks to vote.

A few things that the advisory board can support us with:

  • which jurisdiction should we approach for this year
  • once midterms are over, go back to the board to review what worked and what didn't

Briefly reviewed transcript, will need to clean up as it is a bit difficult to read in its current format.

Given the new direction of the BallotNav project, all other issues related to the Board of Advisors has been moved to the backlog, and assignees removed.

We should work on a follow up with Bonnie to brief her on where the current status of this is, can probably be an email to start and a meeting if needed. The current thinking is that this is less of a priority at the moment, as we are rethinking the BallotNav project as a whole, and the UX team will be prioritizing work on the "organization research" (to be made into its own project based on #481)

Leaving this in In Progress for now, as we need to brief Bonnie on current status and get her feedback.

Spoke with Bonnie during team meeting and briefed her on the current status of the Board of Advisors project, letting her know I will work to get her the plans for this and the Market Fit Research project by the end of this week.
