I had the same problem as #2157 but did not see your solution - instead I rolled back to 1.2.1 where the error message included your suggestion of starting the machine in the VirtualBox GUI - I think it was this one: https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant/blob/master/templates/locales/en.yml#L859...L862

It would be useful to add that suggestion to :boot_bad_state https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant/blob/b8dc881792ad59b3c55c9f297faf43eaf05f31e7/templates/locales/en.yml#L151 as doing that enabled me to solve the problem.

Just a heads up, I had Hyper-V installed on my Windows 8 computer, and after removing that, it works! :)

I had the same problem, and the solution for me is disabling the AVG Antivirus. Something in that software is wont let the VM to boot.
