Joining the community

We are happy to welcome any interested scientific research group to join the 30+ groups currently working on proofreading, annotating, and analyzing the female VNC connectome.

All individuals interested in joining the FANC community should have their PI/group leader contact Wei-Chung Lee (wei-chung_lee@hms.harvard.edu). The PI or lab head will be responsible for the conduct of workers from their lab.

  • The PI's introductory email to Wei should include a few sentences describing the general scope of their interest in the VNC connectome (e.g. which circuits / types of neurons). This will help us connect the new group with current community members who may have overlapping interests, to establish collaborative plans if appropriate.
  • Groups without prior experience in connectomics are encouraged, though certainly not required, to find a collaborator with connectomics experience that would be willing to assist them. PIs are encouraged to mention in their introductory email whether they have prior connectomics experience in their group so that the FANC community managers can have a sense of how much training and support may be needed for the new group. (We have brought onboard multiple groups with no prior connectomics experience, so don't let this stop you!)
  • New groups will have to read and agree to follow the Community Code of Conduct.

Note that we currently do not accept applications from members of the general public who are not part of research groups to contribute to this project. However, flywire.ai, an effort very similar effort to ours, welcomes all contributors. Please find more information on their website.
