What should go in salt.txt?
In general, any site that either publishes both false and real news without a clear malicious intent or any site based in countries for which there are few other sources because of strict censorship. For example:
- News sites and state broadcasters run by governments considered not-free.
- Sites which have a mixed reputation for factual accuracy.
- Despite being a state-owned broadcaster based in Qatar (which is considered not-free), Al Jazeera is listed in trust.txt. This is because Al Jazeera has a generally good reputation in terms of factual accuracy.
- Buzzfeed is listed because of their handling of the Trump-Russia dossier and Traingate.
