it seems like a nice addition to me to let users customise this behaviour, also it might mitigate some scrolling issues users have.

Why was this done?
making this property customizable by users will enable users to enable or disable drag behavior. And it might help mitigate scroll-related issues users might have like for example this one #298.
I am also looking into a proper fix for the issue mentioned above but this should help mitigate this issue meanwhile
