How about creating a project on Crowdin and maintain the translation into other languages. We can choose several people who are fluent in some languages and who will follow the actuality of the translation. Because as I see the process of translating into Spanish is very slow #119

I don't have a budget for that - this is entirely volunteer work. I wouldn't want to put this on anyone else, either. Perhaps there is a free solution for GitHub that we could look into?

There is GitLocalize. It have good integration with GitHub and it's free for public repos. I've tested it for my repo GitHub / GitLocalize

@RichardLitt Hmm..interesting. Since this question is not urgent, volunteers can translate. Create a new project and leave a link here.

Looks like only @k88hudson can do this. :)

Sound very interest Crowdin and GitLocalize. I like a little more the last.

I think that @k88hudson have to decide if is necessary or not, and which use.

@qWici Hi, I am engineer for GitLocalize. If you have any question. Please feel free to ask me.

@sotayamashita Is there any way for non-admin collaborators to enable it?

@sotayamashita

@RichardLitt You it is. You can translate docs if admin invite on GitLocalize.

@RichardLitt

@sotayamashita I'm not sure I'm seeing how to add it. On this page, I'm not seeing k88hudson/git-flight-rules. But I'm not an admin on this repo, just another maintainer, so it may not be possible for you to enable it with my permission set. If it is, though, that would be great.

@RichardLitt You need to ask repository owner to integrate on GitLocalize.

UPDATE: Is it possible?

Ok, I've added the repository. I'm getting an error code (404 page) when trying adding moderators/admins though, do users need to authorize GitLocalize first or something like that @sotayamashita?

Yes. they need to signup at GitLocalize first to add them as a moderators.

@RichardLitt I saw your repository on GitLocalize. It is conflicted. Please see https://docs.gitlocalize.com/how_to_contribute.html#5-resolve-a-conflict If you have any question, feel free to ask me on here or intercom on GitLocalize

@RichardLitt

Resolving the conflicts seems to require that I link up every section for the entire document, manually. That sounds very lengthy and arduous. Am I missing an easier way?

I have forked this repo and addeded it to Gitlocalize but when I submit a string I get a warning: "Content You need to upgrade the plan to translate". What should I do? (I already sent an email requesting an upgrade).

Hello @kevinoliveira , if we get a free tool to work we may resume the translation there. @RichardLitt any update on CrowdIn?

@lucasMesquitaBorges

Hello @kevinoliveira and @Forbrig , We already have a tool to work with translation. We're using GitLocalize, right now Brasilian Portuguese is currently with 62% translated content.

In this repository, find the file CONTRIBUTE.md, go to section translation. There you will find the steps to start contributing.

Same. I've tried pinging Kate elsewhere a few times. Not sure what else to do, short of forking this.

Greetings, if translation process is still ongoing I can contribute to Turkish translations. As far as I can see there are no mods for Turkish so I can take the role.

@RichardLitt

Works for me!

@abrek-koc
Copy link

One thing is, "Add Language" button won't show at GitLocalize. Should I fork the project and create a pull after I conduct translation myself or can you add the Turkish option to this repo's GitLocalize page?

@RichardLitt
Copy link
Collaborator

I've added you as the moderator for that language. :) Try now?

@abrek-koc
Copy link

Yup, right now I can see myself registered as moderator but file seems to be corrupted, it says translation is 100% and when I try to reach it, it gives 404 error.

@RichardLitt
Copy link

Not sure what to do, there. @sotayamashita Am I right that Gitlocalize is no longer being updated? Is there a way to pay you for your help?

@abrek-koc
Copy link

I will be waiting to see if there's a solution and if not I can find an alternative way. Both ways I am pretty eager to translate it into Turkish so it's no problem :) Thanks for your time.

Why did we give up Crowdin? You can apply for a free license for open source

See #162 (comment).

@abrek-koc

It seems there is no response so I will start working on the file offline with my own translation tool, is it okay to proceed that way @RichardLitt ?

Just putting here the Crowdin requirements:

  1. You have created a translation project in Crowdin.
  2. The project is licensed under an approved license from an open-source initiative.
  3. Your project's source code is publicly available for download.
  4. You do not have any commercial products related to the open-source project you are requesting a license for.
  5. You are the project lead.
  6. You have been working on your open-source project for at least three months.
  7. You have an active community of collaborators.
  8. You keep the "News" section of your website up to date.
  9. You release updated builds on a regular basis.

I don't think we fit a few of these requirements

@RichardLitt
Copy link
Collaborator

Yeah. I also can't do anything at the moment as far as submitting it to Crowdin.

@abrek-koc
Copy link

In fact I uploaded it to Crowdin as a private project and started working on it, because of the excessive workload I could not finish it yet but still got some progress.

@qWici

qWici commented Jun 12, 2021

@RichardLitt maybe you can make fork of this project and add to Crowdin. After that we can just merge updates to origin repo.

@RichardLitt
Copy link

I don't want to take on that extra responsibility. Happy to merge updated translations, though.

Just curious. The readme asks people to use GitLocalize to translate, but forking and PR are still using now?
What to use to help with translation?

@RichardLitt
Copy link
Collaborator

I'm unsure. I don't have the resources to reevaluate GitLocalize, but let me know if we're not using it and we can remove that recommendation.
