Or, given that our current pytest-cov version is quite outdated (we're using version 3, while the latest is version 6), should we consider investigating and updating the tests to be compatible with the newer version? What do you think @merelcht , @astrojuanlu ?

Good question! Considering we're quite behind the latest version I would vote for updating the code to work with the latest pytest-cov version.

The failures were due to the removal of multiprocessing support in pytest-cov in v 4.0.0. They recommend using coverage's multiprocessing support by adding some config - https://pytest-cov.readthedocs.io/en/latest/subprocess-support.html#if-you-use-multiprocessing

That's really great that you found a solution, @ankatiyar ! I see that we have pytest-cov~=3.0 in many places in our code base, including starters. Should we create an follow up issue for change them also?
