FWIW as can be seen in https://github.com/lf-edge/eve/actions/runs/9746692408?pr=4041 the first real run still had some failures. (The two I looked at said "kernel panic" - didn't look at the rest.)

Yes, these occasional kernel crashes (triggered by watchdog due to CPU being stuck) are probably unavoidable. At least I don't know what we can do to prevent them.
With Buildjet we found out that on some of their servers with some older microcode, our qemu running EVE may get stuck (typically already at the beginning, then we get failed onboarding). They are making upgrades on their servers, which should then avoid qemu getting stuck and hopefully also these kernel panics will go away.
