External Applications

This page is a list of external applications that can make use of Wacom tablets or TabletPCs under Linux. Please keep this list short and representative of the best programs in their respective fields.

Graphics

• GIMP: A freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. Brushes support pressure, tilt, and rotation.

• Krita: A generic painting application in the style of Photoshop or GIMP.

• Inkscape: A vector graphics editor with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X. Calligraphy tool supports pressure and tilt.

Handwriting

• CellWriter : A grid-entry natural handwriting input panel. As you write characters into the cells, your writing is instantly recognized at the character level. When you press Enter on the panel, the input you entered is sent to the currently focused application as if typed on the keyboard. It also toggles to an on-screen keyboard. • Xournal : An application for notetaking, sketching, or keeping a journal using a stylus.

• jarnal : An application for individual or collaborative notetaking, sketching, etc.

Control Panels

• Wacom Graphics Tablet: A control panel integrated into the GNOME Control Center. Relies on libwacom to detect tablets and their available configuration options.

• Wacom Tablet: A control panel integrated into the KDE System Settings.

• wacom-gui: An alternative control panel intended for KDE, MATE, and other environments. Based on Python and Qt4.

Other Utilities

• wdaemon: A hotplugging daemon for wacom devices.

• Magick Rotation : An application that will help Dell, Fujitsu, HP, and Lenovo convertible tablet PC's automatically rotate screen orientation and devices that use the Wacom or evdev drivers.

• xinput_calibrator : A generic touchscreen calibration program for X.Org.

• easystroke : A gesture-recognition application for X11. Gestures can be made to emulate key presses, execute shell commands, hold down modifiers and emulate a scroll wheel.

• Gnome-Pie : A circular application launcher (''pie menu'') for Linux. By activating one of its slices, applications may be launched, key presses may be simulated, or files can be opened.

• xbindkeys : A tool that allows you to launch shell commands with your keyboard or your mouse (''or tablet'') under X Windows. It links commands to keys or mouse buttons (''e.g. as set with xsetwacom''), using a configuration file.

• xdotool: A command-line based tool which lets you simulate keyboarde input and mouse activity, move and resize windows, etc. Might be useful in conjunction with xbindkeys above.

Libraries / Toolkits / Frameworks

• gnome-settings-daemon already supports several wacom-related gsettings keys for configuration. This includes hotplugging support so that the configuration options are applied both after login and whenever a tablet is plugged in.
